Big enough to serve you, small enough to know you.
Louis E. “Louie” Gilbert

Louis E. “Louie” Gilbert

GILBERT, Louis “Louie” Edmund. Of Woburn, at 77 years of age. Passed away on June 3, 2020 in Woburn from natural causes. Beloved husband of 8 years to Joanne (Quigley) Gilbert. Son of the late Frederick and Kathleen Gilbert. Loving father of Gina Altri and her husband John, Sarah Ross, Renee Johnson and her wife Deborah, Jessica MacKeen and her husband Chris, Sharon Smith and her husband Curt, and Melissa Pomfred and her husband James Monahan. Cherished brother of Robert Gilbert and his wife Linda. Beloved grandfather to Tenile and her husband Cody Faris, Coryana and her husband Jefferson Rauseo, Johncarlo Altri, Allison, Ryan, Stephanie, Cameron, Kyle, and Celia. Devoted great-grandfather to Travis, Abigail, and Levi.

Louis was born in Portsmouth, NH on Veteran’s Day, November 11th, 1942. Louis graduated from Laconia (NH) High School in 1961. In 1963, Louie enlisted in the United States Air Force. Louie served in the Air Force from 1963 – 1970, working as an aircraft mechanic and maintenance technician across air bases in Texas, New Hampshire, and Oklahoma. Louie rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and served two years as a crew chief, working on some of the Air Force’s most complex and important aircraft.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1970, Louie began a long career with ADT, working many positions within the central office and the installation/maintenance department. Louie worked for ADT for 43 years until his retirement in 2013. He was extremely proud of his service as both a Vietnam Veteran and his long career at ADT, earning various awards and distinctions at each position.

In his spare time, Louie absolutely loved to play guitar. He played in several Blues and Country bands over the years, and was a master of the electric guitar. Louie could play anything; rock, blues, country, folk; and he loved to spend time playing music, listening to music, and tinkering with guitars, amplifiers, and other electronics. If Louie wasn’t working at ADT or watching his treasured New England Patriots, you could probably find him at the local Guitar Center.

Towards the end of his life, Louie spent many hours with his wife Joanne taking wonderful vacations, visiting with his many children and grandchildren, and spreading constant joy throughout his large family with his hearty laugh and knack for telling amazing stories about his life. There was never a moment where Louie was not positively full of joy, and he immediately lit up a room whenever he walked in. If everyone saw the world through Louie’s eyes, it would be a better place.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, July 18 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill.
