Edward W. Bakanosky February 19, 1942 - November 21, 2020

Edward W. Bakanosky, 78, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on Nov. 21^st, surrounded by his loving family at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Boston, of complications from lymphoma.

He was born in Haverhill on Feb. 19^th, 1942, to the late, and most cherished mother & father, Edward A. Bakanosky and Catherine Perrault Bakanosky. Edward graduated from Haverhill Trade School in 1960 and was employed as a Sheet Metal Fabricator by Concord Steel Co.  Upon their closing, he worked for Lockhead-Sanders of Nashua, NH, and then the Genetics Institute of Andover, MA. After a few years of bachelorhood, he walked into a marriage and a ready-made family; (perhaps reminiscent of his growing up enjoying holiday and social gatherings with his mother’s large family of aunts, uncles, and cousins). Two years after marrying, a baby girl was born, much to the delight of her siblings, and his life was complete.  Unfortunately, Laurie-Jean passed away on Nov. 30^th, 2018, leaving us all, (and more especially at this sad time of year), devastated. Edward was not very talkative, but was a deep and analytical thinker, so it was surprising how spontaneous he could occasionally be.  When there was so much talk of losing power on New Year’s Eve of Y2K, the power did indeed go out.  It was Edward shutting off the breakers in the basement.  One time he left the beach house in the still of the night to go home for some peace and quiet, only to return and “Moo” until we heard him out in the marshes.  He could not stay away from the beach he so loved.

Edward loved grilling except the time a seagull plucked his chicken right off the grill.  He ran down the beach, weapon (spatula) in-hand, waving and yelling to the seagull, all while wearing his “Damn those Seagulls” cap. After retiring, he enjoyed his garden and cooked all the meals for his now expanding family.  He loved all sports, coming from a family of great football players, but most especially he loved the Patriots.   Edward knew how loved he was by us all, and he will be sorely missed.  He is with his “LaLa” now, his dear brother, Peter, his Mom and Dad, the others he loved, and his beloved pets. Rest in peace our beloved Ed, Eddie, Papa, Pup, Butchie, Babe.

He leaves behind a broken-hearted family, including: his wife, Claire Rivard Bakanosky; the best sister in the world, “Dear” Mary Benedetti and her family; his children: Cheryl Cantara, Timothy Cantara and his wife Cathylee, Lisa-Jo Warren, and Susan Cantara-Webb; 15 grandchildren including the 4 that he helped raise: Edward R., James, Joel, and Armand; 8 great-grandchildren, and others that he loved.
