Haverhill – Robert J. Tarrant Sr., 91 of Haverhill, Widower of Jeanne M. (Charbonneau) Tarrant who died in May, 2020, passed away Saturday July 17, 2021 at his residence after a period of declining health.

Mr. Tarrant was born in Haverhill, he was the son of Irish immigrants, the late, James J. and Mary C. (Moran) Tarrant. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1947.

Through his high school years and after graduation he began his lifelong career in the meat business and worked for the First National Stores in Haverhill as an Assistant Manager in the meat department.

A Veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Tarrant proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was assigned to the 131st Food Service Squadron becoming a Master Meat Cutter. After his honorable discharge, he returned to First National Stores Inc. and became a Meat Buyer for the corporation and would earn his business degree from Merrimack College. For ten years he owned and operated “The Meat Shoppe” located in Newburyport and later returned to the corporate world as a Meat buyer for Agar Supply Company Inc. until his retirement.

Mr. Tarrant married the love of his life, Jeanne M. (Charbonneau) Tarrant in 1954 and raised his family in Newbury. For sixteen years they called Murrells Inlet, South Carolina their home where he kept busy working at a local golf course before returning to Haverhill. Bob was always active in the communities he lived in. A loving, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he cherished his time spent with his family especially the grandchildren. A devout Catholic, he was a man of strong faith and was an active parishioner at St. Louis De Gonzague prior to his move to South Carolina and continued to serve at St. Michaels Church in Garden City South Carolina. He possessed a keen recall and was a master storyteller with a great sense of humor. He was also an avid boater, golfer, and tennis player. His many memberships included, the American Legion, Post 178, Murrells Inlet, SC, Knights of Columbus, Rotary International. Robert also served on the Planning Board for the town of Newbury and Corporator of the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank.

He is survived by his children; Robert J. Tarrant Jr. and his wife Kathi Conroy, of Merrimac, Christine M. Redd and her husband, Matthew, of Amherst, NH and Kathleen J. Keegan, of Myrtle Beach, SC, daughter in law; Catherine Tarrant, of VT, grandchildren; Kayla Tindle and her husband, Bob, Kyle Tarrant, Shanley Autz and her husband, Daniel, Thomas Tarrant, Gus Tarrant, Tucker Tarrant, Haley Keegan, Sean Keegan, Kendall Keegan, Jessica Redd, Curtis Redd and Ainsley Redd, great grandchildren; Daniel Autz, Shea Autz and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son; Kevin A. Tarrant, a great grandchild; Delaney Autz, brothers; John, George, and James Jr., sisters; Elizabeth G. Pyatte and Christine M. Newton, and son in law, Kenneth Keegan.
