Salisbury – Bernard R.  “Bernie” West, 82 of Salisbury, formerly Haverhill, passed away Sunday, July 25 , 2021 at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport with his family by his side.

Born in Kingston, NH, he was the son of the late, Henry C. and Blanche E. (Brickett) West. He attended Kingston public school and was a Graduate of the Sanborn Seminary High School, Class of 1957. On July 4th, 1959 he married the love of his life Elaine H. (Phillips) and they would begin their young lives together for the next 62 years. For over thirty-eight years he was employed by the New England telephone and Telegraph Co. and retire from Verizon Corp in 2004. He served the company as a regional technician, working throughout New England.

Bernie was a great cook and loved his Sunday dinners and holidays with family and friends. He was an avid flower gardener and kept a meticulous yard at both Haverhill and later his Salisbury home. He loved Salisbury Beach where he and his wife Elaine relocated from Haverhill in 1984. He had a great sense of humor and was an outgoing people person. He loved animals, especially cats and volunteered to feed feral cats for the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine H.  (Phillips) West, his son, Timothy L. West and his partner, Doreen Bresnahan, of Danville, NH and his daughter, Colleen M. West, of Merrimac, cherished grandchildren; Samantha West Garlington and her partner , Nicole Bartlett, and Zachary West and his partner Kayla Richardson, great grandchildren; Morgan Garlington and her partner, Jordan Lawther, Jennah Garlington and Audrey Bartlett, and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his siblings; Errol West, Barbara Currie, Elizabeth Akeley, Andrew west, Wesley West, Walter West, and Eugene West.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours on Sunday, August 1, from 2 until 4:30 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill.  Funeral Services will be held at 4:30 in the Funeral Home.
