Haverhill – Bernardo “Ben” DiFloures, 92, passed away September 21, 2021, with his loving family by his side.
He was pre-deceased by the love of his life, Mildred R. (Carrozza) DiFloures in 2018. The son of the late Louis and Julia (Kapella) DiFloures, he was one of nine children born to his Italian and Polish immigrant parents. Ben attended Haverhill Schools and Haverhill Trade School and was a lifelong Haverhill resident. Bernardo served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He was employed at a shoe factory before working at and retiring from AT&T (Western Electric). He also worked from 1960 to 1987 as an air conditioning and refrigeration technician. He, at one time, owned a small-engine repair shop, and always enjoyed tinkering around with motors. He was everyone’s fix-it man. There wasn’t much he couldn’t do. He loved the ocean, fishing and owned several boats during his lifetime. Before he and Millie had children, his first boat was named MilBen. After the kids were born, and he upgraded his boat, it was named Erberlyn; Er for Eric, Ber for Bernie, and Lyn for Lynne. When the kids were grown and out of the house, the last boat he owned, he named it MilBen, coming full circle. In his retirement, he started oil painting. If you were gifted one of his paintings, it meant you held a special place in his heart. He submitted one of his paintings to the Deerfield Fair, and was awarded a third place ribbon. He was very proud of that ribbon, because they had mistakenly entered his picture in the Professional category, saying,‘Third in the Pros is better than first place in the Amateurs.’ He will truly be missed by his family and friends.
Passing his love of the sea onto his children, he is survived by his daughter, Lynne Keogh and her husband John of Haverhill, two sons; Bernardo “Bernie”DiFloures Jr. and his love, Susan Luce of Haverhill, and Eric DiFloures and wife Jane of Franklin, MA. Ben also leaves seven grandchildren; Damon Hunkins and his wife Heather Morris, Jennifer Tessier and her husband Matthew, Nicole Stone and her husband Joshua, Bernardo R. DiFloures, Savannah DiFloures, Jake DiFloures and Abby DiFloures, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother Anthony DiFloures and wife Jean of Haverhill, sister in law Angelina Fazio. several nieces, nephews and many friends. Ben was predeceased by his seven sisters; Nancy Rembis, Helen Tidd, Florence Fogel, Mary Amodio, Louisa Chabot, Josephine Matthews and Irene DiFloures.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, October 2 from 11:00AM until 1:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 1:00PM. Memorial donations in his name may be made to Honor Flight of New England or the Alzheimer’s Association.
