Haverhill – Lucia “Lucy” (Grossi) Pompei, 94, wife of the late Joseph Pompei, passed away July 27, 2022 at High Pointe Hospice with her loving family by her side.
Born in Pico, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Gerardo and Giovanna (Spiriti) Grossi. Raised and educated in Italy, she came to the United States in 1953 to join her husband Joseph and settled in Haverhill. Lucy has lived in Haverhill most of her life and raised her family there. She worked at Western Electric, Samuel Roberts Clothing and Manufacturing and the former Hale Hospital. With her husband, she traveled back to Italy many times, visiting family and staying in their family home. Lucy was well known for her great culinary skills, a true Italian cook, bringing many recipes from her native country. She hosted family holidays and kept the tradition of Sunday dinner for many years. Lucy enjoyed gardening and kept a wonderful vegetable garden which she canned and preserved. She loved to share flowers she grew with all the staff at Sacred Heart Church. A woman of strong Catholic faith, she adored her family and was devoted to them. Lucy will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lucy is survived by her children, Alba Roderick and her husband Ron Roderick of Haverhill; Anthony Pompei and his wife Sheryl of Haverhill; Joseph Pompei and his wife Nancy Asdigian of Denver, CO; Johnny Pompei and his partner Margo Wimmer-Kowal of Italy; six grandchildren, Jennifer Roderick, Kelley McNulty, Anthony Pompei, Carissa Haydon, Julie Pompei, and Carol Pompei; four great grandchildren, Avery, Reese, Sophie and Serena; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Joseph she was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, August 3 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Thursday morning at 10:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 in Sacred Heart Church,165 So. Main St., Haverhill. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, No. Broadway, Haverhill.
