Haverhill – Albert E. Chaff, 84, husband of Rosemarie (Salamanca) Chaff, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2022 at Hannah Duston Healthcare in Haverhill with his loving family by his side.
Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late William and Irene (Mailhot) Chaff. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1955 and attended the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, CT. He embarked on his culinary career first as a chef at the former Colonial Restaurant in Lynnfield. Al also worked on Martha’s Vineyard in Edgartown before opening Al’s Place in Haverhill. He owned and operated Al’s Place in Haverhill for 23 years, opening in 1978 until retirement in 2001 . After his retirement he worked at the Atkinson Country Club. Al loved to travel with his wife Rosemarie. They embarked on trips to Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Paris, London and California. He also enjoyed Salisbury Beach and Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire with his family. Al served his country in the United States Marine Corp Reserves at Camp Lejune. Some of his many hobbies include model trains and working in his yard, which he took great pride in. He was a people person and was known for his great sense of humor. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Al will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his loving wife Rosemarie of 62 years, he is survived by his daughters, Cheryl A. Rocha of Atkinson, Deborah M. and her husband John R. Mandel of Acton, Diane M. Stevens and her husband Barry of Nashua, NH, Darlene R. Conigliaro of Nahant; brother John Chaff and his wife Josie of Methuen, sister Irene Bergeron and her husband Ronald of CT; grandchildren Kellie Rocha and her husband Heath Gray, Andrew and Timothy Rocha, Brian, Jason and Jonathan Mandel, Tony, Billy and Cayla Conigliaro; and great granddaughter Lillian Gray; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings William Chaff, Henry Chaff, Mary Field and Claire Chaff.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Monday, October 17 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Tuesday morning at 9:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00AM at St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 8 Atkinson Depot Rd., Plaistow, NH.
