ANDOVER – Lester D. Mencis, 85, of Andover, entered into rest on Monday, June 26 at High Point Hospice House in Haverhill after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Born in Haverhill February 18, 1938 son of Bert Israel and Dora (Shack) Mencis, he graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1956, and continued his study at Northeastern University. As a star athlete his entire life, he participated in every sport, both as a player and as a beloved and respected coach, including baseball, basketball, softball, tennis, soccer, and racquetball. He was an avid member of the Merrimack Valley Senior Softball Association, and the Ken Waldie Senior Sports Circuit.

Lester proudly served in the US Army and graduated from the US Army Signal Corps.

He was the owner of Lester Realty, a partner of LEM Realty and Mencis Realty.

Lester is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Cynthia Jane (Walmsley) Mencis, of Andover; devoted daughter Lauren and her husband Professor Scott Miller, and adoring grandchildren Gabrielle, Forrest and Jacqueline, all of Woodbridge, CT; and devoted daughter Amy Mencis, of Plymouth; and his brother Edward Mencis, of Sandown, NH. He was predeceased by his son Steven Eric Mencis and brother Milton Mencis.

    So very sorry to hear about Les. He recruited a few of my friends and myself to play on some his softball teams in the 70’s and 80’s. He was a great guy who knew my family for many years. I always enjoyed bumping into him and chatting throughout the years. Sincere condolences.
