HAVERHILL – Raymond J. Champagne, 72, formerly of Wolfeboro, NH, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 16, surrounded by family and overlooking his beautiful backyard in Haverhill, MA.
Ray was born in Wolfeboro, NH on August 31, 1951 to the late Henry and Alice (Lampron) Champagne. He graduated from Kingswood Regional High School in 1969 and worked in carpentry and car mechanics before moving to MA to find a job in computers and technology. Ray was hired by Raytheon in 1973 where he quickly distinguished himself as an invaluable employee and was soon offered a job promotion by his competitors at Eastman Kodak, where he stayed for the next 17 years. Ray transitioned to Tower Technologies in 1997 (now OpenText) and was promoted several times until his retirement in 2018.
Ray was generous, kind, and loved by all. He enjoyed helping others by fixing things and solving problems. He was an innovator, creative thinker, and a skilled tradesman. Ray could build and fix just about anything. His family and friends often looked to him for trusted advice and sound judgment. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his family and doing outdoor activities with his wife, Janet. Together they would kayak, walk, snowshoe, and travel. Their favorite excursion was their yearly trip to Aruba.
For over 40 years, Ray was an active parishioner of Sacred Hearts Church in Bradford, MA. He volunteered his time to many community organizations including St. Vincent de Paul of Haverhill.
Ray is predeceased by his parents, his sister Marie Glidden, and brothers Robert and James Champagne. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 50 years, Janet (Nolin) Champagne, his daughters Doreen Champagne and Laura Hutchins, as well as his two grandsons Wyatt and Henry Hutchins. Ray is also survived by his sister Gloria Hooper, brother Roger Champagne, and a large extended family.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are welcome to attend visitation on Monday, October 23 from 9:00AM until 10:30AM at the Kevin B.
