HAVERHILL – Edith L. (Skofield) Abbott, 98, passed away on Sunday, February 25 at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center in Haverhill surrounded by her loving family.
Edith was born in Haverhill to Fred E. and Madeline E. (Tilton) Skofield. She was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1943. Edith enjoyed many community activities; she was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the PTA, and was a Rainbow Girl Auxiliary volunteer. Edith was the co–owner and proprietor of Abbott’s Marine Service, Inc. in Haverhill, which was founded along with her late husband Ray in 1963. Edith’s presence will be dearly missed as her daughter Linda and her husband George Leeds continue the family legacy at the marina as they have since 1989.
Edith is survived by her daughter Linda L. Leeds and her husband George of Haverhill, her grandchildren George R. Leeds, Candi Sinotte and her husband Courtney, and her great grandchildren Alexis and Nicholas Sinotte all of Plaistow. Edith was predeceased by her husband Ray N. Abbott, Jr. and her siblings Edward Skofield, Virginia Syvinski, Richard Skofield and Ruth Lacert.
