HAVERHILL – Ilene M. (Roberts) Callahan, 77, wife of John J. Callahan, of Haverhill passed away on Wednesday, April 10 at the Penacook Place Nursing Home.
Ilene was born in Haverhill, the daughter of Joseph and Irene (Archambault) Roberts. She attended Haverhill schools and worked for many years in shipping and receiving at Amitron in North Andover.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She was the life of the party and had a great sense of humor. Her family affectionately called her “Auntie Cuckoo” and loved family gatherings where she would cook her famous dish of American chopped suey.
Ilene is survived by her son Joseph Comeau of North Conway, NH and daughters Leah Bridges and Lisa Moore of Haverhill; her brothers Joseph Roberts and his wife Peggy of North Conway, NH, Gary Roberts and his wife Sharon, Michael Roberts and his wife Debbie, Mark Roberts and her sister Barbara Bogrett and her husband Steve, Norma Giorado and her husband Tony, all of Haverhill, and Carol O’Dea of Groveland. She also leaves behind grandchildren Kristy Hammer, Danielle Moore and Trystan McNeil and great grandchildren Kaydance Arpini Logan Smithhurst, Willy Metz and Luke Smithurst, and great-great grandchildren Kaplan and Yvette. She was predeceased by her son Bobby Comeau in 1966 and also her sister Diana Martin.
Ilene’s family would like to thank the staff at Penacook Place and Tufts Hospice for their compassion and care.

My sincere sympathy to all of Ilene’s family. I have fond memories of Ilene, especially when we were young playing “house” on Florence Street. Rest in peace, Ilene.
