HAVERHILL – Clifford D. Demeritt, 68, of Haverhill passed away on Monday July 29 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Clifford was born in Haverhill, he was the son of Clifford E. and Margaret B. (Flammia) Demeritt. Clifford was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, class of 1973, and then went on to proudly serve in the United States Marine Corps from 1974 until 1976, during which time he was stationed in Washington DC and Camp David for President Ford. He then received his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Western New England College and served on the Haverhill Police Department for 38 years. Clifford was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time at his camp in West Newfield, ME. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

Clifford is survived by his children Ryan Demeritt and his wife Jill Demeritt of Epping, NH, Katelyn Demeritt of Haverhill, and Meghan Flood of Punta Gorda, FL. He also leaves behind his brother Dennis C. Demeritt and his wife Ellen of Haverhill, sister Joy Ann (Demeritt) Ethier and her husband Don of W. Newfield, ME, sister in law Julie Demeritt of Haverhill, and cherished granddaughter Harper Demeritt. Clifford was predeceased by his brother David M. Demeritt.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Friday, August 2 from 4PM until 7PM, with Marine Corps Honor Guard presentation at 6PM, at the Kevin B.     Cliff’s Dad and mine were friends and served together on the HPD for years. Over the past years had many conversations with Cliff at Charlie’s Variety during lunch or snacks.
    Surprised and shocked, may he RIP.

    Ryan, Katie and family,
    Cliffy was one of a kind. His humor and his knowledge was essential to our work day. He made time to chat and laugh along the way. He loved his family and he was overjoyed with the births of his children. He was so happy and bragged about his kids. We all know that he looked forward to taking November off for his annual hunting trip. Dave enjoyed a few of those hunting trips with the guys.
    Life is short, but memories last a lifetime. Keep those memories close to your heart. Cliffy will surely be missed by all that know and love him.
