HAVERHILL – The family of Walter David “Doc” Hart, 76, of Haverhill, is saddened to announce his passing on April 25, 2025.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte Hart; his children: daughter Danielle Hart and her husband Arturo Schwartzberg, and daughter Kelly Ingham and her husband Joseph; his grandchildren: Lillian Rose and Violet Marie Ingham; and his siblings: sister Dale Clement and husband Kevin, sister Darlene Eulie and husband Steven, brother Daniel Hart and wife Karen, sister Donna Porzilli and husband Rich, brother Bill Harris, and sister Patricia Bowe and husband Tony; along with numerous relatives and friends.
David was born on April 18, 1949 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, the son of Walter Hart and Rita (Connolly) Harris. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1969 and was honorably discharged for medical reasons.
David loved staying in motion; throughout his life he owned and enjoyed many cars, boats, and motorcycles. He was a gifted mechanic, which earned him his nickname, “Doc” — he could figure out and fix most anything, and often helped out his friends and family with advice and repairs. In the early 70’s he was crew chief for a female stock car driver, and he remained a lifelong fan of racing.
He was a talented water skier starting as a young adult with his family, and later in life he had his own boat docked at Country Pond in Newton. One of his proudest moments was skiing barefoot on his 50th birthday thanks to his good friend, Teddy.
He also loved riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, and enjoyed many trips with his wife, his brothers, and friends.
“Doc” was fortunate to do be able to what he loved professionally for over 30 years at the Bedford VA Hospital, serving the veterans and staff with his mechanical abilities and helping to keep the many buildings and units running smoothly. He continued to speak fondly about his work and co-workers for years after his retirement. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital Hospice Care Unit for taking care of him in his final days.
Perhaps what friends and family will remember and miss the most about David was his sense of humor — he was always quick with a one-liner and would joke around and laugh with anyone who would play along.
ARRANGEMENTS: At David’s request, no service will be held. Memorial donations may be made in David / Doc Hart’s name to the Wounded Warriors Project.
