Michael Joseph Horgan, 63, of Haverhill, died Saturday, March 19 at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late, Thomas J. and Mary C. (Chabott) Horgan. Growing up in Concord, Massachusetts, his family relocated to North Andover, where he would attend North Andover public schools and graduate from North Andover High School, Class of 1965.Upon graduation he would start his long career with Western Electric and Lucent Technologies. He attended Northern Essex Community College and Merrimack College. Working in the engineering and design lab of the company, he specialized in Electrical Drafting. He spent thirty-nine years with Lucent leaving in 2004. He then went to work for MA/COM Company in Lowell until his illness forced him into early retirement in June 2010.A devout husband, and father, Mr. Horgan, met his loving life, Linda J. (Perreault) they married in 1970, and moved to Haverhill. He and his wife were members of the Bradford Swim Club. As their children developed, his involvement with their swimming programs and careers did as well. At the swim club he held many positions and took an active role in any and all of its endeavors. Subsequently, he became heavily involved in several Haverhill High School Swim teams, the Haverhill Recreation Department, the Haverhill YMCA Swim team, and served as President of the Summer Aquatic League. He was also a member of the Eastern Massachusetts Swimming Officials Association, and St. James Church. Being an outdoor person, he was always tending to his garden, picking blueberries, and spending time on the golf course. Along with his wife, he enjoyed traveling, and was never too far from the sun and sand.He leaves his beloved wife of forty years, Linda J. (Perreault) Horgan, of Haverhill, a son, Gregory M. Horgan, of Washington, DC, a daughter, Allyson M. Horgan, of Newton, MA, a sister and brother in law, Cheryl A. (Horgan) and John A. Reade, of North Andover, and nieces and nephews.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Wednesday, from 4 until 8 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 24, at 9 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. James Church, Winter St. Haverhill. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Salem St., Bradford.
