Carmelia M. (Sousa) Mota, 74, of Georgetown, formerly of Cambridge, died Friday, February 10, at the Oxford Nursing Home, in Haverhill, surrounded by her loving family.Born in the Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late, Luis DeSousa and Hirondina (Pacheco). Raised and educated in Portugal, she immigrated to the United States and settled in Cambridge in 1975. She recently relocated to this area with her daughter, Anabela, and her grandchildren.A gifted seamstress, Mrs. Mota was employed at Priscilla’s Bridal in Charlestown for many years. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, she enjoyed nothing more than time spent with her family.The widow of Alfredo DeMota, she leaves her daughter with whom she lived, Anabela Mota, of Georgetown, three cherished grandchildren, Briana, Jonathan, and Nicole Mota-Henriques, a brother, Jose J. Pacheco, of Portugal, four sisters, Cremilde Pacheco, Gilda Simao, Alda Pacheco, and Hirondina Costa, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Gualter Pacheco.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Monday, from 4 until 7 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 AM in St. James Church, Winter St. Haverhill. Burial will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
