Neal Fahy

Neal Patrick Fahy, 84 of Haverhill, died Friday, January 25, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness.He was born September 14, 1928 at Bronxville, NY, The son of the late, Patrick F. and Frances P. (Hanafin) Fahy. He grew up in nearby Scarsdale and Westport, CT, where he graduated from Fairfield Prep School in 1946 and Villanova University in 1950.For over twenty-one years he was employed as a journalist at Fairchild Publications in New York, St. Louis, and Chicago. Moving to Haverhill in 1971, he opened the “Cork and Kerry”, a 200 seat popular Irish Pub on Merrimack Street in downtown Haverhill. The business was unfortunately closed by eminent domain by the city’s urban renewal program in 1974. As an accomplished journalist, he published free weekly entertainment newspapers for restaurants and bars in Essex County SAD, (Seacoast After Dark), the “New Paper”, and the “Good Times”. He then went to work for nineteen years at the U.S. Postal Service where his son Donal follows in his footsteps.Entertaining he was he could play any song on the piano. He had a spontaneous wit and a joke for every occasion. As a gift to his wife on their twenty-fifth anniversary, he agreed to become the family cook, (she was much appreciative). He was best known for his superb Bloody Marys and his delicious deviled eggs. He also made scrumptious sandwiches for picnics on the beach.He is survived by his sister Patricia Frakes, of Washington, DC sons, Bryan P. Fahy and his wife Patricia “Trish” of Hampton Beach, NH, and Donal B. Fahy, of Haverhill two daughters, Maura F. Bailey and her husband, Charles :Chip” Bailey, and Ellen F. Wood, all of Bradford. Five cherished grandchildren, Charles, John, and Dallas Bailey, and Clint and Kyle Wood, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Frances (Ryan) Fahy in February of 2012.The entire Fahy family wishes to express their gratitude to Merrimack Valley Hospice for their support.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Wednesday evening from 4 until 7 PM at the Kevin B.
