Elsie B. (Kelley) MacKerron, 84, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 at Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, after a lengthy illness.Born in Atlantic, Iowa, on Jan. 24, 1927, Elsie was the daughter of the late Fred E. and Clara A. (Butler) Kelley, one of 13 children. She graduated from Atlantic High School in Iowa and from Sioux Falls College in South Dakota. In recent years, Elsie attended the 60th anniversary for each of those graduating classes.Elsie married her husband, the Rev. John A. (Jack) MacKerron, from Brockton in 1952, after they met in Michigan as members of God’s Invasion Army. After a brief teaching career in the Massachusetts public schools, Elsie worked with Jack in his ministries in numerous locations, including churches in Hollis Center, Maine, Bradenton, Fla., Jackman, Maine and Holton, Maine. Their longest stint was at the White Mountain Chapel in Conway, N.H., where Elsie founded and ran the Little Mountaineers Kindergarten. Elsie also worked, with Jack, in service of the New England District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, focusing on Christian education and women’s conferences matters.Elsie retired with Jack to Haverhill 10 years ago, where she was active in various programs at Bethany Community Services.Elsie is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Jack, her daughter and son-in-law, Miriam M. and Perry R. Bryant, of Lee, N.H. her son and daughter-in-law, John A. and Denise H. MacKerron, of New York, N.Y. her four grandchildren, Amanda E. Bryant, Nathan P. Bryant, Matthew J. Bryant and Jane A. MacKerron three sisters, Agnes, Clara, Edna, Novella and Stella and several nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her son, Douglas J. MacKerron, and seven siblings.ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family of Elsie MacKerron are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., (Route 125), in Haverhill. A period of visitation will precede the service from 1 to 2 p.m. A private burial will take place on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011.
