Groveland – Marie A. (Cuocolo) Hurd, 64, of Groveland, died Friday, September 13, 2013 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House with her loving family by her side.Born in Boston, she was the daughter of Josephine (Palermo) and the late Angelo R. Cuocolo. Raised in Revere, she was a graduate of Revere High School and received her Bachelors Degree from Southern New Hampshire University. Upon her marriage to her late husband, Lendell A. “Butch” Hurd in 1969, they started their life together and raised their family in Groveland. Marie was very active in her community as she raised her family. A selfless woman and loving wife and mother, she dedicated her life to her family while juggling a career. Her late husband was a self employed mechanic and his hobby was racing cars, so Marie was drafted as a member of his pit crew and biggest fan. As her boys grew, she became involved in the Boy Scouts Troop 87 in Groveland. She was so proud of the fact that all three of her boys were Eagle Scouts, and she eventually was named Chairwoman for the Boy Scouts of America, serving the organization for over ten years.Marie was employed by the D.J. Casey Paper Company in Haverhill for over fifteen years. She then became business office manager for the City of Methuen Public Schools and for the last three years she was employed at the Pentucket regional high school as business office administrator.She leaves her three sons, Craig D. Hurd and his wife Melissa (Ariel) of Haverhill, Colby A. Hurd and Dallis Hurd, both of Groveland, two cherished grandchildren, Sophia J. and Vincent A. Hurd, her mother, Josephine Cuocolo, of Newburyport, two sisters, Kathleen C. Cuocolo, her partner Gary L. Smith and her son Sean P. Butze of Concord, and Angela C. Miele and her husband Joseph, of Londonderry, NH, and their daughters Alysia and Julia Dushane.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Monday morning from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM in the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated at 11:30 AM in St. Patrick’s Church, Center St. Groveland. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Groveland. Memorial donations may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St. Lawrence, MA 01843.
