Arcenio Matias-Lopez

Haverhill – Arcenio Matias Lopez, 59, of Haverhill, passed away May 14, 2014 at Massachusetts General Hospital with his family by his side after a yearlong battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Born in Sabana Grande Hostos, Dominican Republic, he was the son of Antonio Matias and the late, Juana Lopez. While attending Santo Domingo University in the Dominican Republic, he was offered a scholarship to attend University in Moscow in Russia where he earned his Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering. After his studies were completed he relocated back home and then transitioned to Haverhill in 1987. He was employed at Malden Mills Manufacturing Company for many years. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Mr. Matias Lopez dedicated his life to his family. He enjoyed gardening, and listening to music, especially classical and jazz. He leaves his beloved wife, Querys (Matos) Matias, of Haverhill, his five loving children, Juana Lopez, of Moscow, Fabio Matias, of El Centro, CA, Manuel Matias, Juana Matias, and Magdiel Matias, all of Haverhill, and a cherished grandson, Arcenio Fabian Matias. He also leaves his nine brothers and sisters, Nereida Brito, Ismael Matias, Porfino Matias, Victor Matias, Santiago Matias, Sigfrido Matias, Maria Matias, Jose Matias, Luz-Bernarda Lopez, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Eunicis Matias. Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Sunday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will begin on Monday morning at 9:00 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. James Church, Winter St. Haverhill.
