Haverhill – Conrad C. “Connie” DeVeau, 83, a lifelong resident and retired Haverhill Firefighter, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Haverhill Crossings on Thursday, October 2, 2014. Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late, Joseph A. and Etta M. (Comeau) DeVeau. Raised and educated in St. Joseph Parish, he attended St. Joseph Grammar School, Tilton School, and Haverhill Trade School. A Korean War Veteran, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Hickox and was awarded the Navy Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal w/2 engagement stars, United Nations Medal, and the China Service Medal. He enlisted in July, 1950 and was honorably discharged in May of 1954.As Mr. DeVeau concluded his service to country, he would then continue to serve his City of Haverhill for 33 years, retiring in 1996. In his younger years, Connie played baseball for the Lafayette Athletic Club as Catcher. He enjoyed fishing, and he was a Boston sports fan. He was an avid reader, a skilled woodworker, and kept a meticulous yard. Working in his yard also gave him reason to catch up and socialize with his neighbors. He also enjoyed friendly card games at the Sons of Italy. Living a full life, nothing gave him more pleasure than time spent with his family, especially his cherished grandchildren.The Widower of Catherine L. (Germinara) DeVeau who passed away in 2007, he is survived by his loving children, Stephen C. DeVeau, and his partner, Delores Barbera, and Deborah F. DeVeau, of Stratham, NH, and David DeVeau and his wife, Melissa, of the Woodlands, TX and Rye, NH, four grandchildren, Katie Hyser, Derek DeVeau, David Ross DeVeau, Jr., and Madeline DeVeau seven great grandchildren, Max, Finn, William and Jack Hyser, and Nicholas, Grant, and Noelle DeVeau his siblings, Ralph DeVeau and his wife, Peng, of Lake Forest, CA, Roberta Dumont, of Epson, NH, Eunice Braithwaite, of Essex, MD, Claire Abrams and her husband “Abe”, of Salem, NH, Jeannette Duarte, of Pahrump, NV, Donald DeVeau and his wife, Edith, of Atkinson, NH, and Joanna M. Christian, of FL and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Luc DeVeau, and siblings, Myrna Newell, Hubert, Lucien, and Norman DeVeau.Friends and family are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Funeral Service on Saturday, November 29, at 12:00 Noon, at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home Burial will follow in St. Patricks Cemetery, North Broadway, Haverhill. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon, at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill.
