Methuen – Fannie Mae (Engstrom) Hodgkins, 88, passed away on Sunday, December 27th at Sutton Hill Center in North Andover, Ma, surrounded by her loving family.Born in Detroit, MI she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Saima (Syrjamacki) Engstrom. She was raised in Jaffrey, NH, at the base of “her” Mount Monadnock and attend public school in Jaffrey. Her family moved to Chelsea and she was a graduate of Chelsea High School, Class of 1945. Fannie then attended the Burdett Business School in Boston and worked as an executive secretary for MacMillan Publishing in Boston. After several years of worldwide travel as an Army wife, in 1966 she moved to No. Andover with her husband to raise her family. Fannie was employed as a tax examiner at the IRS, then became employed as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at various local nursing homes. She had a strong faith and was active at the Fellowship Bible Church, primarily in their music ministry. As an accomplished piano player she loved music and sang for the Handel and Hayden Society. She will be remembered as a proud Army wife and devoted mother and grandmother.Fannie is survived by her children, Mark R. Hodgkins of Lawrence and Linda M. Ruscio of Salem, NH her grandchildren, Sean Hayes, Matthew Ruscio, Justin Smith, Brandon Smith, Andrew Smith, Alyssa Smith and Travis Smith her great grandchildren, Sullivan Hayes, Macy Hayes, Marley Hayes, Andrew Clark, Nathaniel Smith, Neve Smith and Logan Smith. She is predeceased by her daughter Susanne M. Smith, who passed away in 2011 and her brother, Oscar Engstrom, Jr.Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, January 2nd from 10:00AM until 1:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services will follow at 1:00PM at the funeral home. A spring time burial will take place in Conant Cemetery, Jaffrey, NH.
