Haverhill – Joanne M. (Hamel) Liszewski, 85, wife of the late Alfred P. Liszewski, passed away on December 26 at Holy Family at Merrimack Valley Hospital with her sons at her side.Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late Paul E. and Dorothy E. (Ross) Hamel. She was a lifelong Haverhill resident and attended Haverhill Public Schools and Haverhill High School. After high school she married her husband Alfred on July 3, 1949 at St. James Church in Haverhill. Joanne was employed in the local shoe industry as a stitcher for many years. She loved the local beaches and spent many days there with her family. She loved to stay and enjoy the sunsets. Most of all, she enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her two sons, Stanley P. Liszewski and his wife Deborah L. (Martel) of Haverhill and Stephen P. Liszewski and his wife Corey (Hsu) of Lynn her grandchildren, Jason P. Liszewski and Kristen Flannery and her husband Brian and a great grandchild, Lyla Flannery. She is predeceased by her brother Donald Hamel and sister, Shirley A. Dietrick. Joanne’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the staff at Wingate of Haverhill for the excellent care for the last ten years, especially to her favorite nurse Laurie.
