Haverhill – Barbara J. (Grant) Allen, 60, of Haverhill, formerly of North Reading, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston with her family by her side.Born in Stoneham, she was the daughter of Calvin S. Grant Sr. and the late, Jeanne L. (Fuller) Grant. Raised in North Reading, she was a graduate of North Reading High School, class of 1972.Relocating to Haverhill fifteen years ago, Barbara and her husband Wayne found their newly adopted city a great place to raise a family. Along with her husband, Barbara was employed as a Newspaper Carrier for the Lawrence Eagle Tribune. For over twenty-two years her paper route grew as did the families she served. She was a friend in the neighborhood. Barbara was proud to receive a Good Samaritan Award in May 2013 for assisting a customer in need.As a newlywed, Barbara and her husband took a cross country road trip to California, a trip they forever cherished. Together they visitedFoxwoods, took foliage trips and loved visiting Salem Willows. Barbara loved animals, especially horses, gardening, and enjoyed crafting and playing board games, especially Scrabble. She had the most nurturing, humble and compassionate soul and with her gentle and selfless ways, would bend over backwards to help anyone in need.A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she leaves her husband of thirty-eight years, Wayne F. Allen, of Haverhill, a son, Christopher J. Allen and his wife, Kirsten J. (Kozat) Allen , of Concord, NH, a daughter, Rebecca J. (Allen) Will and her husband, James M. Will, of Bradford, two grandchildren, Taylor J. Allen and Harper L. Allen, her father, Calvin S. Grant Sr., of Nashua, NH, two brothers, Calvin S. Grant Jr, of Arizona, and Kenneth E. Grant, of Nashua, NH and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, William P. Grant. Barbara also leaves behind her sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws Sharon (Allen) Gagnon, Andy Gagnon, Darlene (Allen) Corkum &amp Doug Corkum all of Haverhill as well as her niece, Amanda Gagnon. Barbara also leaves behind her Aunt Ruthie (Fuller) Richardson of Virginia and her beloved pets Oreo &amp Nemo. Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Burial is private.
