Haverhill – Carl H. “Chico” Spaulding, Jr., husband of Mary A. (Costanzo) Spaulding for over 46 years passed away October 4, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Carl was due to celebrate 47 years of marriage next month with the love of his life Mary. The two were never seen apart. Two peas in a pod. Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Carl H. Spaulding, Sr. and Audrey (Butcher) Spaulding. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School. Carl was employed as a machine operator for Vernon Plastics formerly of Haverhill for 20 years and at Chesterton in Groveland for 15 years. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He loved spending time with his family at their camp in Wakefield, NH. Chico loved to fish from his kayak at Chadwick Lake in Bradford, Round Pond and Plugs Pond in Haverhill. Known for his great sense of humor, he was always trying to make people laugh and was a true jokester. Chico was an extremely selfless, kind man with a big heart and was always offering a helping hand. At the time his mother spent in a nursing home he would love to visit with and help out all the residents, even if it was just a listening ear. He loved his cats, especially his cat “Pokey”. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he had a special relationship with his son in law David, who was like a son to him. His daughter was the apple of his eye. The word “No” did not exist in his dictionary when it came to he; and he adored and loved spending time with his one and only Grandson, Jacob.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Mehta, Nursing and his Office Staff at the Dana Farber Cancer Center.
Chico will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by his daughter Rachel M. D’Aoust and her husband David J. of Merrimac; grandson Jacob D’Aoust; brother Robert Spaulding of Haverhill; sister in laws, Rose Morrill of Merrimac, Catherine Lash and her husband Tom of Severn, MD; two nieces Michelle and Kelley; brother in laws Joseph Costanzo and his wife Mary of Litchfield, ME; Vinnie Costanzo and his wife Lynda of Litchfield, ME; Tony Costanzo and his wife Cindy of Haverhill; and his many cousins.
Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are by the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Center in Methuen. Please visit Comeau Funeral Home on Facebook or www.comeaufuneral.com
