HAVERHILL – Carol Louise Medley, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at her home in Haverhill.
Our Beloved Mother, Carol Louise Medley went to her Eternal Home with God, who she trusted and depended upon daily. Her Husband Arthur Richard Goebel resides at Nevins Long Term Care in Methuen. They were married for 22 years. Carol attended Tilton School, Bartlett School, and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1957. She later worked in Haverhill at Ornstein Shoe Factory on Washington Street and Grad’s Clothing Store, downtown Merrimack Street. She also worked at Western Electric / AT&T / Lucent Technologies in North Andover as one of the best inspectors on first shift. She retired in 2008.
In Haverhill, Carol was active in fundraising for the Catholic Daughters Association, Civic Education Club, and The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Boston, MA. She was an avid bowler on several different leagues at Pilgrim Lanes in Haverhill, and also played softball on the AT&T Woman’s League. Carol loved attending ceramics classes, creating many beautiful items for gifts and her home and donated most of her finished items at fundraisers. She was an expert at playing Bingo and a very lucky winner, playing Poker, Whist, and 45’s. A former member of Calvary Baptist Church, she served on 2 committees – Pastor’s Aid, Hospitality Food Committee, and as a Teller. Feeding the hungry, she was also a member of the food ministry; always busy helping to prepare meals for the needy and homeless people in Haverhill. She bought food and cooked weekly for a group of Christians who met at GAR Park to provide food and clothing for the people in need. She also volunteered at the Haverhill Citizen Center assisting with cooking for feeding the hungry. Carol and Arthur attended Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Haverhill where she served on the Methodist Women’s Committee, Fellowship Committee, and was always willing to help with fundraising. Carol also loved gardening, planting many different kinds of flowers, and had a beautiful collection of indoor plants on her upstairs deck.
Carol is survived by her daughters Cheryle Medley and Deborah Chambers McGuire and her husband Edward McGuire of Haverhill; her son Marvin L. Medley of Benton City, WA; three grandchildren Shaniqua Medley, TayShawn Medley and Shanyia Medley; step sister Cardell Burgie Bennett of Bradford; as well as several nieces. She was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Mildred (Henecy) Thomas, Sr., and grandchild Jowana Medley; as well as her sister Clara Thomas and her brother Clarence Thomas, Jr. and one nephew.
