Clifton A. Clarke III, 59, of the Bradford section of Haverhill, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill after being stricken ill suddenly at home.Born in Haverhill, he was the son of Clifton A. Clarke Jr. and Dorothy A. (Spaulding). He was educated in the Haverhill Public School System and was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, Class of 1969. He then attended Cardinal Cushing Academy for one year. An accomplished athlete, he loved Football, and during his high school years he played on the Haverhill High School football team, and later played for Cardinal Cushing Academy.For over 40 years, Mr. Clarke was employed at Northern Essex Community College. He began his career as a custodian and became the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. Devoted to his family he was a mentor to those close to him. He was an avid sports enthusiast, whether watching or being involved in a game.He leaves a son, Ryan J. Clarke of Plaistow, N.H. a daughter, Kristin A. Clarke of Haverhill a step-daughter and her husband, Debra and Eric Baker, also of Plaistow, N.H. mother, Dorothy A. (Spaulding) and her husband Richard F. Gilmore of East Kingston, N.H. father, Clifton A. Clarke Jr. and his wife Nancy of Sun City, Ariz. five grandchildren, Jaylen Brown, Philip Brown, Arcadia Yapp, Joeleis Muniz-Clarke, and Acasha Muniz-Clarke a brother, Michael J. Harris and his wife Carole A. (Struzziero) of Boxford four sisters, Sharon L. Washington and her husband Barry of Wayne, Pa., Nancy J. Diamantopoulos and her husband James of Dracut, Jane E. Harris-Fale and her husband Greg. A. of Bradford, Connie Davidson and her husband Patrick of Ontario, Calif. aunt, Janice and Ronald Pinette of Haverhill uncle, James Clarke of Avon, Colo. his companion of 10 years, Laurie A. (Richardson) Dovey of Haverhill and several nieces and nephews.ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Route 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. in the Technology Center Building at Northern Essex Community College, 100 Elliott St., Haverhill.
