Groveland – Constantine V. Billis, 84, a lifelong resident of Groveland, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, June 6, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.Born in the home in which he resided his entire life, he was the son of Nicholas and Helen (Consoulou) Billis. He attended Groveland Public School and was a graduate of Groveland High School, class of 1948. A gifted athlete, he played high school baseball and played on the basketball team that had a perfect record of 18-0 and went on to play in the Tech Tourney at the Boston Garden. A Korean War Veteran, he proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until being honorably discharged in 1954.Mr. Billis was deeply involved in his community. He served the Town of Groveland on the Cemetery Commission for twenty-one years and coached Babe Ruth baseball for five years. Mr. Billis was employed as a Machinist for the United Shoe Machinery Company in Beverly for over thirty-seven years. His talents as a machinist led him to engineering and fabricating his own inventions for his trade. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, he was the widower of Joan F. (McCusker) Billis who died in 1993. He was also predeceased by his devoted companion, Jean Barbone and his sister, Bessie Boudreau. He leaves three loving children James B. Billis, of Groveland Stephen H. Billis and his wife, Deborah, of Fort Pierce, FL and Constance H. Billis-Williams and her husband, Mark, also of Fort Pierce, FL two grandchildren, Kate Rogers and her husband Gabriel and Jason Williams and wife Leborah, four great grandchildren, Gabriel Rogers, Jak Rogers, Meadow Rogers, and Bryan Reed a sister, Catherine Wildes, of Hudson, NH, several loving nieces and nephews, and extended family, Robyn and Bob Curry and Scott Barbone all of whom will miss him dearly. Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Thursday, June 11, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Main St. Groveland.
