Donald Joseph Winkowski, 67, of Plaistow, NH, formerly of Haverhill, died Sunday, April 10, at the Lawrence General Hospital after being stricken ill suddenly at home.Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late, Benny and Anna (Walsh) Winkowski. His family relocated to Haverhill as a child where he would attend Haverhill Public Schools and was a Graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1961. He furthered his education at the Berwick Academy and went on to continue at Merrimack College, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree.Mr. Winkowski enlisted into the Marine Corps Reserve and proudly served from 1966 until 1972, earning the organized Marine Corps Reserve Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and Medal for Good Conduct. For over thirty-six years, Mr. Winkowsi was employed by Raytheon in Andover as a payroll supervisor, retiring in 2004.As he and his wife, Judith were “snowbirds” they would enjoy their winters together in Briney Breeze, FL, and enjoy summers on Lake Winnipesauke, where he enjoyed serving as President of the Yacht Cub Vista Condo Association. Loving nature’s beauty, he enjoyed fishing and boating.He leaves his beloved wife of forty- two years, Judith Ann (Collins) Winkowski, of Plaistow, a son, Darren M. Winkowski, and his close friend, Jessica L. Connelly, of Bradford, two brothers, Robert and his wife Ann Marie Winkowski, of Dunstable, and Thomas S. and his wife Teresa Winkowski, of Clifton, VA, two grandchildren, Trysta J. Winkowski, and Tyler J.M. Connelly, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Elaine O’Connor.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Friday from 4 until 7 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 16, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
