Gordon I. Crowell, 73, of Haverhill, died Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Lawrence General Hospital after being stricken ill suddenly at home.Born in Wakefield, he was the son of the late Horace E. and Mabel (Whalen) Crowell. His family resided in Reading and moved to Haverhill as a young child. He attended Haverhill Public Schools. A Veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Crowell served his country as a proud member of the U.S. Air Force.He was a life member of the Haverhill AMVETS Post 147 Haverhill.Mr. Crowell was employed in the local shoe industry for many years. He worked for the Allen Shoe Company in Haverhill for over 20 years until the company closed its doors in 1991. He then went to work for Scandia Plastics Inc. in Plaistow, N.H.The widower of Joanne (Palamara) who died in 1996, he leaves two brothers, Horace E. Crowell and his wife Lois of Beaver Dam, Ariz., William A. Crowell and his wife Regina of Rochester, N.H. a sister, Mary Brakehill of Ukiah, Calif. six nieces, Michelle Dionne of Bradford, Karen Rogers of Gilford, N.H., Melinda Burgos of Gilford, N.H., Bonnie Sheldon of Haverhill, Joyce Crowell of Somersworth, N.H., and Julie McGinty of Londonderry, N.H. He was predeceased by his brothers, Richard, James, and his companion of many years, Dorothy Perry.ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Route 125) Haverhill. Burial with military honors will follow in Forest Glade Cemetery, Lowell Street, Wakefield.
