Henderson, NV – James P. “Beef” Steer, 58, formerly of Raymond, NH, adoring husband of Lynne (Horan) Steer, passed away August 10, 2016 at St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson, NV surrounded by his loving family.Born in Haverhill, raised in Bradford, he was the son of the late Glen H. and Helen A. (Flynn) Steer. He attended Sacred Hearts School, Class of 1972 and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1976. Jim was employed in various manufacturing facilities in the Haverhill area including Gare Ceramics, Vernon Plastics Corp and Foss Manufacturing. For the past 20 years he worked for the United States Postal Service first as a letter carrier and most recently in the facilities maintenance department. Most of his postal career was spent in the Haverhill office. In the last year he transferred to the Las Vegas Post Office. For many years it was a dream of Jim and his wife Lynne to relocate to Henderson, NV where he would spend the remainder of his career and a long and happy retirement.Jim was a man of all seasons except winter. He loved spending time on the water and at the local beaches. He was a well- read man, intelligent, witty and had a mind full of information, all things trivial. Jim was an avid sports fan including all the New England teams, especially the Boston Red Sox. A music lover, he attended several concerts with friends and family over the years. He especially enjoyed music by the Grateful Dead. “Beef” as he was affectionately known, held a large presence in every room he entered.Always with a smile and a quick joke, his heart was relative to his size. He never had a bad word to say about anything or anyone. His family and friends are truly blessed to have known this gentle giant. His passing is a great loss to those who knew and loved him.In addition to his wife, the love of his life, he is survived by his daughter, Julia B. Steer of Raymond, NH his siblings, Helen E. Steer of Manchester, NH Mary F. Roberts and her husband Ken of Plaistow, NH Jenna McRae of GA Glen A. Steer of Pasadena, CA John T. Steer and his wife Gerda of Austin, TX and several nieces and nephews.Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, August 14 from 2:00PM until 5:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Monday at 9:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Sacred Hearts Church, South Main Street, Bradford at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Salem Street, Bradford. Memorial donations may be made in his name to a charity of one’s choice.
