John M. Thornton

Haverhill – John M. Thornton, 83, husband of Judith M. (Donovan) Thornton, passed away October 20, 2020 at Sutton Hill Center in No. Andover.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late John F. and Martha (Violette) Thornton. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, Class of 1956 in the Machine Shop. For over 37 years he was employed as a Tool Die Maker at Lucent Technologies. With his wife Judith, he enjoyed traveling and camping, with family and friends for many years. John loved the Naples area of Florida and enjoyed 20 years as a snow bird. John was a member of the St. James Holy Name Society and a member of the Merrivale Campers. Known as a kind and loving man, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. John will be missed for his caring ways of his family and by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his loving wife Judith of over 62 years, he is survived by his children, Michael F. Thornton and his wife Kimberly of Sunnyvale, CA; David S. Thornton and his wife Kimberly of Lexington, SC; Donald B.Thornton of Nevada; Pamela Desjardins and her husband Raymond of Haverhill; grandchildren, Amanda and Ryan Thornton, Chantal and Jay Desjardins and Marisa N. Thornton; and his great grandchild, Parker E. Burgess.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, October 22 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services will be on Friday morning at 10:00AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Mill Street, Haverhill.     I am sad to see that John has passed. I will always remember how hard he worked with my dad, John, to make AMVETS Post 147, Haverhill, as good as it could be for Veterans and all Americans near and far. My prayers are with him. Rest in peace.
