Haverhill – Louis J. Cusenza, 77, husband of Shirley A. (Simonian) Cusenza, passed away April 2, 2018 at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill after being stricken ill suddenly.Born in East Boston, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Ventura) Cusenza. With his family he moved to Haverhill where he grew up. He went to Trade School and had to leave due to an illness in his junior year. Louis was employed in the shoe industry at Allen Shoe for 25 years, becoming forman during his last 4 years. He left to become a custodian with the Haverhill Public School system, retiring after 25 years. He and his wife enjoyed many trips with longtime friends Jim and Pat Dupre. They especially enjoyed Sicily, Italy where his father was born. They liked to take day trips to Foxwoods, Plainridge and Oxford, and Louis enjoyed a friendly game of cards. Louis was a member of the Liberty Club in Haverhill. He loved music, especially Elvis and the Bee Gees. Throughout the day you would often hear him humming melodies. Louis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He married Shirley on April 8, 1966 and they enjoyed almost 52 years together. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his loving family. He will be missed by all those who loved him and knew him. In addition to his loving wife Shirley, he is survived by his loving daughter, who he referred to as his darling daughter, Deborah A. Coultas and her husband Thomas of Dracut his sister Joyce Gould of Haverhill brother in law Ron Simonian, daughter in law Lisa (Aslin) Cusenza four grandchildren, Robert Coultas and his wife Jill, Jordan Cusenza, Julia Cusenza, James R. Cusenza, Jr. nephew Raymond Girard and his wife Robin and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves his close friend of over 50 years, Roberto “Pancho” Venturi of Somerville. He was predeceased by his son James R. Cusenza, sister Nancy Girard and brothers in law Raymond Girard and Walter Gould. The family would like to give a special thanks to their dear friend Jes Card and everyone at the hospice house for their loving care in his final days. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, April 7 from 2:00PM until 5:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 5:00PM.
