Mary Evelyn (Conway) Onyon, 86, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died Friday, June 22, at her home surrounded by her loving family.Born and raised in the Acre section of the city, she was the daughter of the late Maurice J. and Julia T. (Sullivan) Conway. She was a Graduate of St. Gregory Grammar School and St. James High School, Class of 1944. A devout Catholic, she was raised in St. James Parish and was a member of the former St. Rita’s Parish and later All Saints Parish. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the America’s Court St. James # 436 and the Haverhill City Women’s Club.Mrs. Onyon was also well known in the community as she was in the position to help many people. She began her career at the Massachusetts Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, she the moved into the Massachusetts State Department of Employment Security, and finally retired from the Social Security Administration as a Claims Representative.After her retirement she stayed active by travelling and caring for her grandchildren. She was an avid walker and enjoyed the new friends she made while line dancing at the Senior Citizen Center. In addition she enjoyed attending lectures at the NECC Life Long Learning Program.The devoted wife of the late Robert J. Onyon, who died in 1972, she leaves her loving children a son, Michael J. Onyon, of Haverhill two daughters, Ann M. Pauley, and her husband, Michael, of Sandown, NH, and Lisa J. Onyon and her husband, John R. McCutcheon, also of Haverhill. Four cherished grandchildren, Michael D. Pauley Jr., John Robert Pauley, Caitlin Mary McCutcheon, and Julia Ann McCutcheon, a sister-in-law, Priscilla Conway, of Phoenix, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Richard, Edward, and Frank Conway, and sister Hazel Bingel.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Monday, June 25, from 4 until 7 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in All Saints Church, Bellevue Ave. Haverhill. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, North Broadway, Haverhill. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
