ATKINSON, NH – Annie F. (Stewart) Atwood, 89, formerly of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, at Mass General Hospital in Boston.

Born in Paisley, Scotland she was the daughter of Robert G. and Annie (McGowan) Stewart. She was a graduate of Paisley High School in Scotland. Annie came to the United States in 1957 and earned her citizenship in 1962. She attended Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill and worked for 27 years at Holy Family Hospital as an EMT, in the Emergency Room and the Cancer Unit until 1996. Annie moved to Haverhill for 26 years, then to Hampton, NH in 1997, and finally to Atkinson, NH where she volunteered at Exeter Hospital. She was a member of Cedardale Health and Fitness Club and the YMCA, and she was a decorated championship swimmer and triathelete.

Annie is survived by her sons Robert E. and Siobhan Atwood of Haverhill, David and Linda Atwood of Vienna, VA; daughter Nancy J. and John Leclerc of Haverhill. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Lindsay Graham, Lauren Liebenow, Jillian Atwood, Braeden Atwood, Claudia Atwood, and Erika Atwood; and great grandchildren Lyra Graham, William Graham and Owen Liebenow. Annie was predeceased by her husband Edward G. “Ted” Atwood and her daughter Kathryn A. Norton.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, October 6 from 2PM until 5PM at the Kevin Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 7 at 10AM at St. John the Baptist Church at St Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 114 Lincoln Ave., Haverhill. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Massachusetts General Hospital, Development Office
