HAVERHILL – Barbara G. Gove, 98, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2 at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill.
Barbara was born in Weymouth on May 21, 1926 the daughter of Guy and Julia (Whitney) Benner. She was a graduate of Rockland High School and then went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Boston University. Barbara worked as an administrator in the Haverhill Public school system at both the Walnut Square and the Smiley Schools for 20 years. She attended the Universalist Unitarian Church of Haverhill where she served over the years in various capacities including choir, trustee, and member of the Ministerial Committee, and she was a pillar of the church. She was also an active member of the Hosford Club for 50 years.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Pamela Devine and her husband Lawrence of Nashua, NH, daughter Holly Porterfield of Londonderry, NH, son Prentice Gove and his wife Jean of Westboro, and daughter Kimberly Norton and her husband Collin of Haverhill. She also leaves behind grandchildren Matthew Lemieux, Heather Devine, Justin Devine, Brian Gove, Molly Rojee, Zachary Norton, and Julia Norton; and great grandchildren Logan and Larkyn Lemieux, Lydia, Clara, and Amelia Michna, and Mackenzie and Lexi Rojee.
She was predeceased by her husband Henry Gove of Haverhill, her brothers Matthias “Thi” Benner, Karl Benner, and Herman Benner, and her sisters Kathleen Lockwood, Beverly Cassara, and Frances Kimpel, and a son in law Mike Porterfield.
