Catherine V. Jameson (Kay) of Haverhill, MA, passed away on February 5, 2021 of complications due to Covid.
She was born to Catherine (Fitzgerald) and Andrew S. Nadeau on November 29, 1925. She grew up in the “acre” during the depression, one of five children. She graduated from St. James High School and was a devoted Catholic her entire life. She was a member of both St. James and Sacred Hearts parishes. Many family members and friends were honored to be on her powerful “rosary list”.
She was predeceased 30 years ago by the love of her life, James P. Jameson, Jr. (Jim). They met at the Ration Board during WWII, where she worked, when he was in the Air Force. They married on June 23, 1946 and raised their family in Bradford, MA. They enjoyed many happy years together. They both loved dancing and traveling, having gone on 13 cruises before Jim passed away. Their loving marriage was a testament to their devotion to each other and they set a powerful example for their children and their families.
With children scattered all over the country and at times, the world, Kay loved travelling to visit them wherever they were – Egypt, Taiwan, Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Wisconsin, New York, and pretty much everywhere in between.
She was most at home at her beloved “camp” on Province Lake. Sixty-five years ago Kay and Jim bought a small cottage and turned it into a treasure trove of good times and indelible family memories. Going to the lake was the ultimate summer experience for their children and grandchildren. Everyone loved the evening walks to the bridge, the legendary poker and Trivial Pursuit games, and of course, plenty of snacks and refreshments. She was also an excellent waterskiing spotter.
“Nana” as Kay was known to all, was a fun-loving grandmother, who would get right down on the floor with the grandkids and really play with them. She was a babysitter extraordinaire, willing to drop everything and travel when a grandchild was born – often in the “nick of time” to be “on duty”. She also loved attending recitals, sports games, graduations and all other events for her grandchildren or children.
She played the banjo in her early years and instilled a love of music – playing and performing – in her children and grandchildren, inspiring the formation of the legendary Jameson “garage band” in recent years.
Kay was an avid sports fan, and loved watching the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins, often dressed in one of her team shirts and hats.
She especially enjoyed holidays with family. Her pies and cinnamon rolls were prized by all, and she passed the great cinnamon roll tradition down to her children and grandchildren.
Although not able to get together in person, her family created a movie to mark her recent 95th birthday, and celebrated with her on Zoom. She had many hours of enjoyment re-watching the movie in the months since her birthday.
She is survived by her sister Anne Gardella of Hampton NH, and was predeceased by her siblings Mary DeRoche (Haverhill), Daniel Nadeau (Florida) and John Nadeau (Newburyport).
She is survived by her five children: Kathleen Grogan (Donald “Buzz”) of Marana, AZ; Brian Jameson (Valerie) of Mt. Dora, FL; Jean Skanes (Brian) of Malta, NY; Michael Jameson (Pam) of Scottsdale, AZ; and Stephen Jameson (Nancy) of Plaistow, NH. Loved by all her grandchildren – Kim Brossart (Joseph), Amanda Vogel (Carlo), Shaun (Sarah) Jameson, Keith Jameson, Kevin Jameson, Erik Skanes (deceased), Mark (Kathryn) Skanes, Monica (Rory) Lenahan, Shannon Jameson, Haley (Ben) Eaton, Lauren (Joe) Parkhurst, Hannah Jameson and great grandchildren – Jack Brossart, Abigail Brossart, Tilly Vogel, Tyler Jameson, Charlotte Skanes, Bryson Skanes and Drew Parkhurst.
Due to Covid restrictions the burial will be private. A Mass at St. James Church followed by a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley and North Shore, Attn: Development Office, 280 Merrimack Street, Suite 400, Lawrence, MA 01843 (https://www.esmv.org/give/), or to the charity of their choice. To express your sympathy or share a treasured memory, please visit https://comeaufuneral.com/ or Comeau Funeral Home on Facebook.
