Haverhill – Charlotte R. Johnston, (Hillidge), 82, of Haverhill, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at her home.
Charlotte was born in Haverhill on March 10, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Hillidge and Mary (Grazio) Rapaglia and Frank Rapaglia.
Charlotte was raised in Haverhill and was a graduate of Haverhill High School. Charlotte was the pick-up mom for her sons’ hockey games at 6am, where she was also their biggest cheerleader. She loved watching them play the game. Her love for the ocean, floating over the waves with her sister Frances, was always a favorite. She also enjoyed gambling! From cards to scratch tickets to family pokeno games and of course her trips to Foxwoods, where she never lost.
Charlotte was also her daughters’ biggest cheerleader. Through it all, teaching them how to be the amazing woman she was … unique.
Charlotte loved cooking and sharing her food with others. Sunday dinners with family is where she really shined. A generous, caring, welcoming woman who always loved unconditionally and gave her smile to all around her, Charlotte was a blessing and will forever be missed.
Charlotte was the loving mother of Mark R. Johnston and his wife Gina of Haverhill, Scott M. Johnston and his wife Ellen of Lowell, Kelly Perez of Haverhill, and Steve Tingley of Plaistow NH. She was the sister of Frances Arzoonian of Bradford and the cherished grandmother of James Johnston, Lainey Johnston, Casey Johnston, Courtney Johnston, Jennifer Calnan, Joseph Calnan, Joshua Perez, and Ashley DeMont. She was the great-grandmother of Ava Quintal, Domenic Cantone, and Nicolena Cantone, and aunt to Carol Johnston. She is also survived by her longtime significant other Ronnie Zangari.
She was predeceased by her daughter Mary Tingley, sister Marie Caputi and a brother-in-law Michael Arzoonian.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours in the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill on Tuesday, February 21 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM.
