Dorothy Anne (Flanagan) Burgess of Newburyport, MA passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 2 at Penacook Place.
She was born March 24, 1930, in Haverhill to the late Harold W. and Dorothy E. (Roche) Flanagan, Sr. Dorothy attended school in Haverhill, graduating from St. James High School in 1947. She met her husband of 40 years, H. Donald Burgess, of Groveland while working as a cashier for Massachusetts Electric in downtown Haverhill. The two were married at St. James in Haverhill and were lifelong residents of Newburyport, enjoying visiting the beach in the evenings after work, often in their beloved convertible automobiles. She and her husband loved traveling, and in later years visited Florida in the winters. Dot and Don were devoted members of the Immaculate Conception parish in Newburyport, and Dot often attended Mass daily. She loved shopping, finding bargains, and getting together with friends and family. She will be remembered as always living life to the fullest.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and her beloved brothers, H.W. (Bill) Flanagan, Jr., of Haverhill and David M. Flanagan of Rye, NH. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Eleanor (Burgess) Demanche, of Haverhill, nieces, M. Erin Wrobel of Haverhill, Patricia D. Alger and husband Robert of Londonderry, NH, Kathleen E. Hartin and her husband Brian of Brighton, and Colleen Allen and her husband Brian of Dover, NH, MichelleTarr of Dover, NH, Denise Fountaine of Haverhill, Jean Kantzian of Haverhill as well as nephews William G. Flanagan and his wife, Cindy of Friendswood, TX, and David Flanagan, Jr. and his wife Robin of NH, Thomas Kelleher of Cromwell CT, Jon DeManche of San Diego, CA and Charles Buchikos of Southport, FL. She also is survived by many grandnephews and nieces.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Friday, September 10 at 10:00 am at St. James Parish, 185 Winter St., Haverhill.
