BEVERLY – George E. Cantwell, 95, of Beverly, formerly of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30th at the Beverly Hospital.

Born in Haverhill on November 10, 1928 he was the son of Bernard and Helen (O’Rourke) Cantwell. George was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1947.  After high school George served in the U.S. Navy in Korea and then went on to study at Suffolk University in Boston. He worked as a sales consultant for many years, working for Gerber Baby Food, Sunshine Biscuit Co., Quality Cheese & Spice in Cambridge, and Prince Macaroni. After working in the food industry, George worked in Property Management and Real Estate. He managed real estate for the Teamsters on the east coast, worked for Leggat-McCall-Werner and for Compass Management. George was a member of the Merrimack Valley Golf Club and the Crystal Springs Country Club, and was very involved in local politics, running for Democratic State Representative in 1957, and was the President of the Essex County Democratic Party.

George is survived by his sisters Erlene Dozibrin of Brentwood, NH and Patricia S. Ross of Bradford. He also leaves behind a sister in law Catherine “Kay” S. (Caggiano) Cantwell of Haverhill. He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor (Tobyne) Cantwell, and brothers and sisters William Cantwell, Arlene Lyons, Mary E. “Betty” Uele, Eleanor Kneeland, Dorothy Cantwell, Bernard Cantwell, Robert J. Cantwell, Sophie Murphy and Joan Lessard. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Friday, October 4 from 4PM until 6PM at the Kevin B. Comeau, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 5 at 11AM at St. Paul Parish, 50 Union Street, Hamilton, MA. Burial to follow at Hamilton Cemetery.     We, the parishioners’ of St Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Danvers will miss seeing George at the 9:00 daily Mass. He was a sweetheart and a joy to talk with. We will be keeping George in our prayers.
