Haverhill – Gilbert J. Levesque, 85, husband of the late Ita (Devitt) Levesque, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2019 at Grace House of Windham in Windham, NH.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Gilbert was the son of the late Alphee and Mathilda (Doyon) Levesque attending St. Anne’s grammar school and Central Catholic High School before leaving for New York to pursue an education with the Marist Brothers. He then attended school in the Bronx, New York and graduated from Fordham University, where he met his future wife, Ita, while they were both teachers. He was a proud member of the nationally recognized Glen Mohr Chorale.“Gil” was a dedicated school teacher who had the distinction of being one of the first teachers on TV, hosting a cable show in New York called “Extra Help” which taught math and computer skills in the Port Washington School District for many years and the Paul D. Shreiber Senior High School. Gil and Ita enjoyed travelling the world together and later became snowbirds on the west coast of Florida. Being a New Yorker for most of his life, he became an avid New York Giants football fan. He was a man of strong faith, and also kind, generous and funny, especially known for his great sense of humor and quick wit. His nieces and nephews always enjoyed Uncle Gil’s child-like enthusiasm, non-stop fun-loving jokes, and creative spirit. When Gil was around, there would always be laughter and lots of fun.
Gilbert is survived by his sisters, Dolores Marino of Atkinson, NH; Mary Alice Chatis of Manchester, NH; and his nieces and nephews.
