Gordon L. Stone, 88 December 12, 1936 - January 1, 2025

HAMPTON, NH – Gordon L. Stone, passed away on January 1, 2025. He was born on December 12, 1936 in Haverhill, the son of Lewis Stone and Arlene (Hussey) Stone Howard.

Gordon attended public schools in Haverhill, graduating from Haverhill High School Class of 1954. Following high school, he earned an associate’s degree in Business at Leicester College. Gordon then entered the life insurance business working for New England Mutual and Northwestern Mutual Companies.

In 1959, he married his high school sweetheart Janet Marble and soon after their marriage he was invited into his father-in-law’s business, the Marble Motor Company. Gordon held many positions in the dealership learning the business from the ground up including attending a program at the General Motors Institute in Lansing Michigan. Eventually, he became co-owner with his brother-in-law John Fields (deceased).  Gordon loved cars and loved sales. He created a multi-generational clientele whom he served for many years. Gordon was very involved in the New England Oldsmobile Dealers Association, receiving many accolades and served as a director and as President for many years.

Gordon and Janet cherished the time spent with their family and friends over the years, creating lasting memories together.  They got married in Rye Beach, NH and continued to build memories with their children by spending summers in Rye, filled with fond experiences at the beach club and swim meets.  Then it was off to Conway NH to embrace ski county and share great times with friends while skiing Cranmore Mountain and tubing on the Saco River – two of Gordon’s favorite activities. One of the last summer destinations that Janet and Gordon enjoyed was Quechee Vermont, where they spent memorable summers with family and even taught their grandsons how to flyfish.  Gordon had a passion for the outdoors, relishing activities like golf, tennis, skiing, gardening, flyfishing, and riding wave runners on Lake Winnipesaukee. Among his treasured outdoor experiences were a white-water raft trip down the Salmon River in Boise Idaho and a Hot Air balloon ride in Quechee Vermont.

Gordon took great pride in bragging about his wife a published author, and the wonderful people their children had become.   He also delighted in sharing stories about his five grandsons, closely following their sports and achievements.

After retiring, Gordon spent a few seasons working at Churchill’s Garden Center in Exeter New Hampshire.  With a deep passion for gardening, he was excited to apply what he learned there at their home in Hampton.

Gordon served on the Haverhill VFW Santa Parade Committee for several years and in recent years had become a Granite State Ambassador for tourismin New Hampshire. He dedicatedmany years to volunteering as a docent at the Discover Center in Portsmouth NH and was also a member of the Mended Hearts Program at Portsmouth Hospital.

For twenty-five years Gordon was on the Board of Trustees at Linwood Cemetery in Haverhill, MA.  He was a 50-year Master Mason member of Saggahew Lodge A.F. and A. M., a Member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of the Merrimack Valley and Boston and was also a member of Aleppo Temple Shriners in Boston.

Gordon and Janet were members of the First Congregational Church in Haverhill for many years.  Upon moving to Hampton they joined the First Congregational Church.

Gordon is survived by his wife Janet Marble, daughter Cynthia L. Cavallaro, son-in-law Kenneth Cavallaro of West Newbury, MA, son Jeffrey G Stone and his partner Daniel Pereira of Boston, MA , Valerie S Pantelis of Newburyport, MA and his five grandsons Patrick and Megan Cavallaro, NC, Stephen and Alexandra Cavallaro, of Kingston, NH, George and Lia Pantelis of Boston, MA,  Peter Pantelis of Newburyport, MA and Chase Pantelisof Boston, MA.  He also leaves behind his sister Gretchen Stone Salisbury, MA and his sister Marilyn Staples and her husband John of  FL, and a half sister Judy Neuffer of CO, three great grandchildren along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews
