METHUEN – Jose M. “Joe” Melo, 61, passed away on Wednesday, March 27 at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
Joe was born in the Azores, son of Manuel Melo and Maria Salgueiro. He attended Lawrence public schools. Joe worked as a machine operator and later President of the Union at Malden Mills for 27 years. He later worked at Signature Aviation in Bedford as a lineman. He was a hard and dedicated worker and always took pride in his job. Joe was deeply moved and inspired by music. He showed his talent and passion by being a lead singer and guitarist for a local rock band. Joe loved being around his friends and family. He enjoyed being around a fire, relaxing in the sun, watching classic television shows, and his black Trans Am.
Joe is survived by his two daughters Amanda Melo and her fiancé Mitchell Pierce of Milford, NH, and Alicia Curry and her husband Taylor of Dover, NH; his two sisters Elsa DiPaolo of Methuen and Maria Medina and her husband Victor of Methuen. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Deklan Curry, McKinley Curry, Douglas Pierce and Benjamin Pierce and several nieces and nephews.
