Haverhill – Murry L. Hewey, 91, of Haverhill passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Hewey, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, grew up in the Riverside farm community, and attended Haverhill Trade School. He was an active member of the local Sea Scout Squadron. His career included heading the sales staff at Taylor-Goodwin Lumber Company from where he went on to establish Hewey Construction Company with his son David, embarking on a decades long building career. He was a life member of the American Yacht Club in Newburyport and had a passion and love of sailing and the sea that began in his youth and was a moving force throughout his life. Mr. Hewey was a member of the Advisory Board of Whittier Tech Trade School, a Trustee of Riverside Memorial Church and was active in many local organizations. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife Philis E. Hewey; son David Hewey and his wife Shannon; daughter Debbie Hewey Barrier and her husband Jack; grandsons, D.J. Hewey and his wife Kathy; Nicholas Hewey and his wife Nicole; granddaughter, Alexandra Barrier Sindoni and her husband Alexander; three loving great granddaughters, Mia, Willow and Zoe. He was predeceased by his first wife Barbara Toppan Hewey.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, August 5 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services will be at 10:00AM, Friday in the East Parish Meeting House, Middle Road, Haverhill. Burial will follow in Walnut Cemetery, Kenoza Street, Haverhill. A true blessing to have such a member and a demonstration on how to continue leading and helping in the journey of life. The family should be so proud of his leadership and strength and always keep the memories alive going forward.

Having learned just a while ago of Murry’s passing, memories of past relationships flooded our
minds. It was Murry who designed the addition to our home for my mother to come live with us
in 1980 after my Dad passed – and it was David who did much of the work as well as the finish carpentry. We still live here but now are on the first floor with some adaptations in the apartment
my Mother had some forty years ago. Our warm-hearted sympathy to you all.

He will TRULY be missed. He has been part of the fabric of the AYC as long as both of us can remember and his presence will remain in all the parts of the club that benefitted from his efforts as well as in the warm memories of all who will remember him. August 11, 2021 at 10:14 pmMy husband and I knew Murray for a long time. The last time I saw him, was at the Bretton Woods Hotel on one of Dale and Marcia Roger’s great weekends there! His granddaughter was singing “Tomorrow, Tomorrow from Little Orphan Annie, and she was good!! I think that she had performed at the North Shore Music Theater. I was interested in his obituary that described his love of sailing. My husband was a lifelong sailor. He passed away a couple of years ago, and perhaps they have met on the “high seas”.
