Haverhill – Osmond R. “Ozzie” Hardy, 68, husband of Gayle M. (Donovan) Hardy, passed away April 10, 2019 at High Pointe Hospice House with his loving family by his side.
Born in Beverly, he was the son of Mary E. (Tarr) and Robert Parker of Haverhill and the late James Hardy. He was raised in Hartland, ME, attending Hartland Academy, graduating in the Class of 1968. After high school, Ozzie enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving four years, obtaining the rank of Sargent and was honorably discharged. He began his career in the Haverhill Police Department as a Police Officer, finishing his career as a Police Detective, retiring in 2011. During that time, he was involved in the Haverhill School system and social service agencies, as a liaison for the Haverhill Police Department, helping children in need. Ozzie was the founder of “Ozzie’s Kids”, an organization that provided underprivileged children a full Christmas, for over 30 years. With his family, he helped thousands of children over those 30 years. In December of 2015 he was recognized by the Robert Kraft family at Gillette Stadium for his work in helping the children of Haverhill. He received the Patriots Difference Maker of the Year and a donation of $20,000, which he used for the children and their families. In addition to Christmas, Ozzie would make sure any family in need of Thanksgiving dinner, winter coats and boots, or any other needs throughout the year got the help they needed. Known for his generous heart, giving spirit, and dry sense of humor, he will be remembered as truly, Haverhill’s finest. We know that his legacy will live on through his family, who will continue what he started. Ozzie will be sorely missed throughout the Haverhill community and by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his loving wife Gayle, Ozzie is survived by his children, Robert D. Hardy and his wife Nichole of Haverhill; Thomas J. Hardy and his wife Kara of Haverhill; Khristina M. Hardy of Haverhill; sisters, Mary E. Flood and her husband Raymond of Stratford, CT; Penny J. Bourque and her husband Thomas of Marinette, WI; Jaimie Sue Earles and her wife Bonnie Snyder of Lady Lake, FL; his beloved grandchildren, Makayla Hardy, Sarah Hardy, Tyler Gentile, Robert Hardy Jr., Damian Mitchell, Thomas Hardy, Jr., Logan Hardy and Owen Hardy; and several nieces and nephews.
