Paul D. Graveline, 77 April 6, 1947 - August 19, 2024

ANDOVER – Paul D. Graveline, 77, of Andover passed away on August 19 at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.

Paul Graveline of Andover passed away in August 2024 after a number of extended health struggles. Born in Somerville, he was the son of Armand and Alice (McDonald) Graveline. Paul earned his Masters Degree from Boston University and worked in education. Through his life he was a stalwart advocate and facilitator of the arts and culture in the North Shore; through his NSArtsEvents bulletin and web presence he highlighted and connected arts practitioners and enthusiasts in the region for many years. He was known to many for his gruff, fond, and funny presence, his commitment to his passions, his determination, and his desire to always know more about the world and the people in it.

In recent years he has served as a member on the Andover Cultural Council, where he has helped grant state arts funds to local artists, historians, cultural groups, and exhibitions that have improved the quality of life for our community. He was also very involved with the Andover Artists Guild, which runs public exhibitions and scholarship programs for local artists. Paul was a reliable presence at local cultural events. He was a great fan of music, especially Irish folk music, and regularly attended sessions.

He also greatly enjoyed tennis; he played it regularly until his final years and always fondly spoke of visiting Australia for the Australian Open. As a voice in the global amateur radio operation community, Paul (or K1YUB, as they knew him) served as the assistant editor of the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporations’ newsletters and spoke at conferences to teach others about the practice and operation of radio in space.

Paul had an extended positive impact on Andover and the arts in our region that will endure as others pay it forward. Above that, he was a singular presence as a person, and we will miss him.

Paul, a good friend whose company we enjoyed. We were in shock when, we learned at the ham radio conference that he had passed — we had kept an eye out for him that day and learned, from the banquet speaker (Dr. Tamitha Skov) that he had passed a few days before. Our hearts immediately sank.

    You’ll always be remembered,

Till the time comes, 73 de W1AMA — Greg and Joan Caliri

  2. Beate Hait says

Paul is remembered fondly by Walk ‘N Mass Volkssport Club, where he was a member since the late 1990s. Paul was always ready to help staff a checkpoint and greet walkers with his gravelly voice and ready smile. For 20 years he sent weekly email reminders to club members about upcoming events — unless he was traveling and enjoying another of his passions: tennis. Rest in peace, Paul.
