Haverhill – Richard J. “Dick” Joseph, 69, husband of Patricia A. Sullivan, passed away April 15, 2019 at Lawrence General Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Born in Dorchester, he was the son of the late Emmanuel and Charlotte (Dowd) Joseph. He was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School, Class of 1967. He attended Northeastern University and the United States Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1972, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and went on to obtain his Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Southern California. Dick served his country in the United States Army Green Berets as Captain, serving in Supply Management and was a Foreign Area Officer, traveling the world. He was the proprietor of MVP College Funding where he assisted students in the application and funding process for college. Dick was passionate about his country, politics and serving for the betterment of his country and will be remembered best for his over-enthusiastic political views and his love for New England sports teams. He was an avid marathon runner, running in 33 marathons, including the Boston Marathon, the Marine Corp Marathon and many others across the country. While attending West Point he was a NCAA Division 1 Athlete in Track and Field. A devoted husband and father, he was always there for his family and friends. He felt his greatest contribution to the world were his two children, who he was most proud of. He was an avid supporter of both his children’s varied interests and had a great love for his family.
In addition to his wife Patricia, he is survived by his children, Casey Joseph and Callie Joseph, both of Haverhill; his many brothers and sisters, Theresa McCarthy and her husband Paul of Lynchburg, VA; Marjorie Austin and her husband Robert of Hanover; Barbara Steptoe of Gilbert, AZ; Mary Beaudin and her husband Don of Landaff, NH; Neil Joseph and his wife Sharon of Raynham; Paul Joseph and his wife Claire of Chester, VA; Fred Joseph of Plymouth, MA; Larry Joseph of W. Barnstable; William Joseph and his wife Cheryl of Bristol, NH; Tom Joseph and his partner Dale of San Leandro, CA; his aunt Alice Wilson of Wilmington; sisters in law, Chris Joseph of Myrtle Beach, SC and Wendy Joseph of Millis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, John Joseph and Stephen Joseph.
