Haverhill – Susan V. Clarke, a resident of Haverhill for over forty-five years passed away peacefully at Lemuel Shattuck hospital on April 21, 2021.
Originally from Medford, the daughter of Veronica Mary Clarke, Susan was born on October 6, 1949 at a time when people with disabilities were denied the opportunities most of us take for granted. Susan moved to Haverhill after leaving the Monson State School in the mid 1970’s where she embraced life in the community relishing all it offered. Kind, compassionate, and industrious Susan found work at Cedardale Athletic Club in Bradford where she was employed for twenty-eight years. Susan could be counted on to make her best effort daily and was appreciated by members for her attention to detail. Susan was a long time regular at Heavenly Donuts Bradford. Susan was a devoted friend and never missed and always enjoyed visits with her many friends, especially Maryellen and Kevin Hatch, Bridget Crowley and her son Harry, Christine Harrington, Eleanor Sweetman and Carolyn Norton. Susan was an active member of MASS Advocates Standing Strong and the Greater Haverhill Peer Support Group tirelessly working for the rights of people with disabilities. For many years Susan was a faithful and dependable volunteer at Saint Vincent DePaul doing all she could for others. Susan was a devoted friend and the loyal sister of Maryanne Clarke who will be forever remembered for her independent spirit, determination, and ability to find joy in all she did.
Susan leaves her sister Maryanne Clarke of Haverhill and her nephews William Palladino of North Hampton, NH, Christopher Palladino of Acton, ME and Brett Palladino of Marco Island, FL and Donald Mulligan of Malden . Susan was predeceased by her mother Veronica Mary Clarke and sister Diane Mulligan.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 7 at St. James Church, Winter Street, Haverhill at 11:00AM. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, 230 Playstead Road, Medford. Arrangements are by the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill.
