HAVERHILL – Willard C. Leeman, Jr., 92, of Haverhill passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30 at his home surrounded by his family.
Willard was born in Haverhill on January 9, 1931, to Willard C. and Alice (McCormick) Leeman Sr. He attended elementary school at Sacred Hearts and graduated from Haverhill Trade School, Class of 1949. He served in the US Navy and then went on to Drake University on a full football scholarship. Willard tried out for the Boston Patriots in 1963 and then went on to Salem State College where he received his master’s degree in education. During his career, Willard taught at many local schools and colleges as a physical education instructor, coach and guidance counselor. Willard liked taking day trips to Foxwoods for fun. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed watching his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Willard is survived by his wife of 67 years Lucille (Scaglione) Leeman, of Haverhill; his son William and his wife Susan Leeman, of Atkinson, NH, daughters Theresa and her husband Philip Caruso, of South Carolina, Debra and her husband Luiz Moschos, of Haverhill, and Frances and her husband John Motta, of Sandown, NH. He is also survived by his sister Roseanne Scamporino, of Haverhill; his sister-in-law Madeline Scaglione, of Newburyport, MA, grandchildren Angela and her husband Trey Mickler, Maria Caruso, Michelle Caruso, Jennifer Leeman, Matthew and his wife Jacquelyn Leeman, Sarah Motta and Emily Motta; and great-grandchildren Robert Mickler, James Mickler, Austin Leeman and Evelyn Leeman. Willard was predeceased by his son John Leeman and sisters Jane Lynch and Joyce Wezesa.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, November 16 from 4PM until 7PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral Home chapel service on Friday, November 17 at 11AM. Burial to follow at the Greenwood Cemetery, 1830 East Broadway, Haverhill, MA 01830.
