Bradford – Raymond L. Melanson, 92, husband of Ursula (Bodoni) Melanson passed away October 4, 2020 at Maplewood Nursing and Rehab in Amesbury.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Ellsworth and Elizabeth (Bayne) Melanson. He was raised and educated in Salem, graduating from Salem High School, Class of 1946. Raymond received his Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching from Fitchburg State. Raymond lived in Salem before moving to Bradford in 1976 and lived there until his passing. Prior to teaching, Raymond was a construction worker for 15 years. He was a most beloved teacher at Whittier Vocational School in carpentry for many years and at Haverhill Trade School. Raymond taught many of the local building inspectors their trade in that program. He also was well known at the Night School Director, teaching the Contractors Class. A well versed handyman, many would call and ask his expertise on their own projects. Raymond was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1950, serving as Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Veragua Council No. 76 (Salem, MA). Known to be a teaser in all matters, Raymond was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his loving wife Ursula, he is survived by his daughters, Diane Melanson of San Francisco, CA and Elyse Hood of Norfolk, VA; brother, Richard Melanson of Long Beach, CA; sister, Ruth D’Entremont and her husband Robert of Danvers; and his granddaughter, Sarah Aaronian and her husband Michael of Billerica; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Friday, October 9 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. A Graveside service will be on Saturday morning, 11:00AM in St. Mary Cemetery, North Street, Salem. my condolences to Ray’s family I was a student of Ray’s class of 1982 he was a great teacher and a very kind and patience fun teacher, as a kid being being a teenager at the time you just didn’t really appreciate a guy like Ray until you graduated and start to enter you new life and apply the skill and the things he taught you as you enter life journey!
thank you Ray and rest in peace my mentor and friend you’ll be missed here I’m sure of that but somehow i know your teaching skills will continue!

Ursula and Sarah – we just learned of Ray’s passing. He was the loveliest neighbor who always had helpful suggestions for whatever home improvement project we were struggling with and we always enjoyed the break from working to stop and chat with him. I’ll never forget that he invited us to join you all for Thanksgiving dinner on the day after we returned from the hospital with baby Colin in 2002. You all didn’t really know us that well, but Ray didn’t want us to have to struggle with a newborn and Thanksgiving meal preparations. It was the kindest gesture that I’ll always remember and appreciate. Sending our love and prayers.
