Robert Francis Crowley (74) of Groveland died peacefully, while surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 10, 2012.Born in Cambridge and raised in Arlington, MA, Robert was the second of five children born to the late David J. and Mary V. (O’Donnell) Crowley. Robert was a graduate of Arlington High School (’55) and earned a Bachelor’s Degree at Bridgewater State College (’60), while later attending graduate classes at Boston University. Robert proudly served in the National Guard of Massachusetts and the United States Army Reserves, honorably discharged in 1959. Associations include the Bridgewater State Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, St. Patrick’s and Sacred Hearts Parishes, the Knights of Columbus Christ of King Council No. 5004, and the Massachusetts Teachers Association.Robert was a dedicated teacher and guidance counselor at the Norwell Junior High School in Norwell, MA and later worked for Penn Box in Plaistow, NH for nineteen years. He then worked at the General Electric Workers Assistance Center in Lynn, MA as a Job Development Specialist assisting laid-off workers find new employment.As a young man, Robert was an enthusiastic athlete and captain of the Bridgewater State Varsity Men’s Tennis Squad. Continuing his love for sports later in life, Robert had a particular passion for coaching and refereeing high school basketball throughout the Merrimack Valley for many years. Other interests included a love for music, where Robert was blessed with an extraordinary singing voice which will be a point of remembrance for many.Robert was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. He leaves behind his beloved wife of fifty-one years, Kathryn M. (Fenlon) Crowley, of Groveland. Children include three sons, Bruce J. of Florida, Kenneth J. of Beverly, and John D. and wife Farrell, of Wellesley, and three daughters, Bridget H. Crowley, of Bradford, Sarah K. Perry and husband Michael, of Groveland, and Judith M.V. Davis and husband Michael, of Boston. Siblings include three brothers, David J. Crowley Jr. and wife Carolyn, of California, J. Richard Crowley and wife Carole, of Arlington, and John M. Crowley and wife Lynette, of Connecticut, and a sister, Mary E. Flynn and husband Robert, of Natick. Robert had twenty seven nieces and nephews. He is also survived by nine dearly loved grandchildren, including Shawn Crowley, Kevin Crowley, Hannah Perry, Cullen Perry, Margot Crowley, Ava Perry, Christian Perry, Harry Crowley and Marianne Crowley.Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Friday, January 13 between 4:00 and 8:00 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14 at 9:30 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 114 Center St. Groveland. Burial will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery, 186 Main St. Groveland.
